Biocatalytic membrane reactors has been widely used in different industrial application including food industry, fine chemistry, biological, biomedical, pharmaceutical productions, environmental treatment and so on. The application of biocatalytic membrane reactors to the above research area is very important from our daily life to the professional environment. In this chapter, the necessity of biocatalytic membrane reactors is considered, which are based on traditional and novel methods for the enzyme and cell immobilization to characterization and estimation of their performance, and their applications in biotechnology such as hydrolysis, organic synthesis, production of bio-ethanol, pharmaceutical productions as well as optical resolution and medical fields like artificial organs are described.

Abstract
