Halitosis disease results in a distinctive volatile fingerprint of the individual exhaled breath. Here a QMB based electronic nose has been used to study such fingerprints. This study aimed at following the time evolution of halitosis conditions in patients undergoing two different treatments. Professional operators assessed oral odor, and their evaluation was used for classifier training. Results show that the electronic nose can identify the presence of oral malodor and the attenuation of the condition achieved by the application of the treatment. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

Abstract
